I think this card is probably one of my favorites!! I rarely make sympathy cards but could always use some in my stash just in case. The idea came from a combination of the sample in the Occasion Mini Catalog for this stamp set as well as one of the cards on the front of the catalog. What I did was use the Extra Large Scallop Punch and cut it in half to enlarge it. I also cut out the More Mustard stamped words Sympathy.

So a couple weeks ago my open house was canceled due to the snow storms we got on the east coast. Now that many of my customers have seen these samples first hand, I though I would post some of them here.

This first one uses a combination of fabric and paper. I used my tombow glue to adhere the fabric to a piece of cardstock.

My Digital Studio gift

I just love this program and all the things that it can do. My mom created a 2011 calendar for me as part of my Christmas gift. The printing is very professional. Here are just some of the pages from the calendar. All of these pictures were taken during our 2009 December Disney Trip. This was a particularly fun trip because my sister's family, my parents, my brother and his fiance got to come with us. I wish I had the original file so that you could get a better look at these. For now, here are pictures of a few of the pages.

Page 2 (This was the best day of the trip. We were picked to not only open the park and be the first on the Safari ride, but to also be in the Animal Kingdom Parade)

All calendar pages were done in distress. Each month was a corresponding distress color. If there was an important date of that month, she colored it the color of the distressing and made it bold.

I loved the way it turned out. I should probably get on finishing my Mother In Laws Calendar. Its almost done. Now that I see what the finish product looks like, may give me more incentive to get doing it!

Last Christmas Card for the week

This last Christmas Card was done my son's Mom mom - Ruth. Its hard to tell by the picture, but the white embossed on the Old Olive Cardstock looks great together. The tree and saying are from the stamp set Snow Swirled. The embossed tree is wrapped with retired Stampin' Up! silver stretch cord ribbon. I miss that stuff! There are silver brads for the center of the snowflakes on the tree. Silver Encore (also retired) snowflakes are stamped on the Whisper White cardstock. The card base is made from Cherry Cobbler Cardstock.

This next card my Mom sent me. These Diorama cards looks so complicated but are so easy to make.

She created this card with Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive and Very Vanilla Cardstock. The pattern paper used was Deck the Halls. I am loving the new stamp set in the big catalog, Welcome Christmas. She punched the outside and middle sections with the Curly Label Punch. If you look closely at the front of the card, it is stamped with Scenic Season Stamp set from the big catalog.

I hope that everyone had a great Holiday. Before I pack all of my Christmas things away, I wanted to share with you a few cards that were sent to me by family and friends. These posts are in no particular order.

This first card was sent to me by a good family friend Pat. I just love the look of transparent cards. Pat painted the edges of the card with a Gold Zig Painter Marker. Unfortunately Stampin' Up! no longer sells this product. This is a pretty cool trick. For the angel, it looks like she used a variety of Stampin Up! Circle punches, Ornament Punch (body), and Heart Punch (wings. The face was hand drawn in.

Sorry I have been MIA for a couple of weeks. Soccer and Football are dying down now. So we should be going back down to 2 nights of practice instead of 4 nights and 1 weekend for sports. Projects with my Upline

Every once in a while I get the opportunity to get to my upline, Gail Murray's house to do some projects. A couple of Thursday's ago I attended one of her hostess nights and got to make these projects. Aren't they just fantastic??

This first project is a holder for a regular sized Hershey bar. It is made with basic black cardstock that was run through the Big Shot using the Web Emboss folder from the Holiday Mini. We also used Wicked Designer paper and Rhinestones.

This next card is a diorama card. It looks complicated but it was extremely easy to do. We used Autumn Spice Designer Series Paper from the Holiday Mini. This paper is great as it is all a nice thick cardstock. Folded, the card fits into a Stampin Up! Open Ended Envelope. We punched the view using the Curly Label Punch

Finally we did a card using Homegrown. We used the technique, dry emboss with the crop-a-dile. I didn't know you could do that, how neat is that!! We used a combination of the Newsprint Designer Series Paper and Love Letter Designer Series Paper. Such a great combination.

I am loving this new pattern paper from Stampin' Up!. Its called Greenhouse Gala and I apologize in advance that the next few posts will be samples from this paper...

This simple but beautiful card is based off of one of my all time favorite Stampin Up! demonstrators website, Mary Fish. She has such a simple but great way of using Stampin' Up! products. I was also able to use some of the new Rhinestones that are in the new catalog.

Ribbon Pinwheels

This seems to be one of the hot trends with Stampin' Up! ribbon. I just had to try it. It was so unbelievebly easy once I got going. I so CASE'd this from Angie Tieman. You must be logged into Splitcoast Stampers to access her original card.

I can't wait to teach this technique in my Technique class in September!

This newsletter is jammed packed with LOTS of changes that Stampin Up! will be implementing.

Stampin UP! Is retiring 30 of its core colors.

Yes that’s right, Stampin UP! has changed their color families. They are retiring 30 colors and adding/bringing back 10 retired colors.

Some Q&A's

Q: Why are so many colors being discontinued, and why are there fewer colors than before?

A: We retired colors based on sales history and focus group feedback. Members of our focus groups indicated that they had some colors they didn’t use; for instance, they purchased a whole family of ink pads and then rarely used some of the colors in that family. In addition, sales on many colors were very low, and the cost to support those colors was not worth the return. We were careful to choose the most popular and up-to-date colors.

Also keep in mind that in addition to our 40 core colors, we’ll have 5 new In Colors each year, and In Colors will have a lifespan of two years instead of one. That means after the first year, there will be 10 additional colors to mix and match and play with, for a total of 50 colors (5 In Colors the first year for a total of 45 colors).

Q: Are other card stocks outside the four color collections retiring?

A: We will continue to offer the following: Brushed Gold, Brushed Silver, Confetti Cream, Confetti White, Glossy White, Naturals Ivory, Naturals White, Shimmery White, and White vellum card stock, as well as White vellum paper.

Q: What are the new core colors, and what are the In Colors that are returning as core colors?

A: The five new colors are called Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Marina Mist, Cajun Craze, and Cherry Cobbler. The ten returning In Colors as core colors are Melon Mambo, Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, River Rock, Soft Suede, Riding Hood Red, Rich Razzleberry, Wild Wasabi, Pink Pirouette, and Baja Breeze. Also, we’ve renamed Kraft to Crumb Cake, and it is a core color in the Neutrals collection.

Q: Will ink and accessories be available in all 40 core colors?

A: Ink will be available in all 40 core colors. However, based on sales history, Craft Stampin’ Pads will only be available in Basic Black, Very Vanilla, and Whisper White. Craft Stampin’ Spots (available in collections) and Craft Stampin’ Ink refills (available individually) will still be available in all of the core colors to use for embossing, coloring chipboard, and scrapbooking.

Basic accessories will be available in a selection of core colors from each collection, including all of the colors in the Getting Started collection. All ribbon types will be available in the colors from the Getting Started collection. Ribbon in other colors may show up in mini catalogs. Also, a blank Craft pad will be available in an upcoming mini catalog, so those who regularly use Craft pads can create their own by purchasing the blank pads and Craft ink refills.

Another Wedding Dress Card

I liked the card I saw at my Uplines so much, I decided to try my hand at making one. I really liked how it turned out,although my youngest son thinks it needs a red bow at the top of the dress :)

This card was fairly easy to make. I used the Scallop Big Shot Die from the main catalog. After I ran it through the big shot, I used a pencil to mark where I wanted my cuts. I have 4 scallops on the top and 12 at the base of the dress. Then I used scissors to cut it out. Once it was cut out, I ran it through my Big Shot again but with an embossing folder. I used the Finial Press Folder from the main catalog.

To give the dress a little more detail, I used White Organdy ribbon and a clear rhinestone from the Pretties Kit for a sash.

The patterned paper is from the Throughly Modern Designer Series.

Upsy Daisy

This card is one of 7 cards that my girls are making at their Stamp A Stack. I love the colors of the Throughly Modern Designer Series Paper.

For the main image, I stamped with Shara Sand Ink. I then took a dauber and sponged Soft Suede on the tips of the flowers. I also used the dauber to sponge the edges of the cardstock with Soft Suede.

I am loving the Beautiful Wings Die that is in the Occasions Mini Catalog. I used 2 of the butterflies from the die for accents.

The colors for this card are, Shara Sand, Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip and Whisper White

Snow Day!! Thank you Gifts

Today is ANOTHER snow day here in PA. We had a big snow storm this past weekend which dropped 2.5 feet of snow. It has now been snowing for the past 24 hours dropping another 2 feet of snow on us. It is not suppose to stop until later this evening.

Kids have been out sledding for a few hours but the snow and wind makes it a little hard to stay out long. While they were out sledding with friends from the neighborhood (we have about 7 kids all the same age across the street and next door) I was able to prepare for my February workshops, Stamp A Stacks and Thank you Gifts for the 3 Month Club Members.

I cut out more than 100 Butterflies from the Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die which can be found in the Occasions Mini. There are a variety of colors and even Vellum butterflies which I think are my favorite.

I placed the butterfly pieces in a clear protective sleeve prior to putting them in their packaging which is Stampin Up!s new Glassine bags. These bags can also be found in the Occasions Mini Catalog. I embossed the Glassine bags before putting the die cut butterflies in them. Embossing the Glassine bag is a little tricky because they are thin almost like wax paper. You don't want to use to much pressure from your Big Shot. I used the hard crease pad to have a little more flexibility. Once you emboss your bag, you have to gently open with your hand. Be careful not to rip it.

The outside packaging I used Old Olive Wide Ribbon and the Large Butterfly Die from the Big Catalog along with some twine.

Scallop Circle Wedding Dress

This wasn't a card that we made at the meeting. I snapped this picture from Gail's samples. This card looks so elegant but so easy to make.

This is a square card that fits into Stampin Up! square envelopes. The dress is made from the Scallop Circle die (113468). After you die cut the scallop circle you cut the indents to form the dress.

The dress paper is ironically called Bride Specialty paper. She matted it on Bella Blue designer series paper

One of the best things about being a Stampin Up! demonstrator is that you get to stamp alot and make new friends. This past weekend I had the opportunity to go to my up-upline's meeting. My direct upline is Jacki Montgomery.

We each had to create a shoe box share. I have to admit that I was extremely nervous because all of the ladies in this group are so very talented... The next 12 days I will show you an example of what we made. I had so much fun and I cannot wait to go back in March!!

If you are a big blog hopper, you have probably already seen some new items from the Occasions mini due out in January. I know I am a little behind, with our big Disney trip and the holidays its been really busy.

I can not tell you how much I like the new Occasions mini catalog. It has so many new things, I didn't know what to get first!!

This first sample I made with the new Sweat Pea Designer paper. It comes in a 12x12 pad with gorgeous patterns. I was able to create 4 of the cards below within a half hour using 1 sheet of the Sweat Pea Designer paper, 1 sheet of 12x12 Chocolate Chip cardstock for the base, 1.5 pieces of 8.5x11 cardstock for the matte and embellishments. I finally got to use all of those brads and buttons I have been hoarding and I do not feel guilty at all!!

The cards measure 3x6 and fit in the small open ended envelopes

I love the new Clear Mount Stamps from Stampin UP!. They are still made with the high quality red rubber Stampin Up! is known for but they can now be mounted on clear blocks. This makes stamping so much easier. They even come in a clear DVD case with the name and thumbnails of the stamps on the spine. Can it get any better than that???

I can't take credit for this card at all. I came across it on SplitCoastStampers. The original idea came from a fellow demonstrator Mary Fish. I am in the process of doing my 12x12 pages to put into my digital calendar. I am making a couple calendars for Christmas presents this year.

The first page I created was from our August trip to Hilton Head Island. This page took me about 20 minutes to finish. I used one of the pre-made templates that are offered with My Digital Studio. I added the text and title. I also rotated the picture box to accept my landscape picture.

When I saw Beatte Johns create this card I knew I had make one myself. Although my card is not a detailed as her card I still love it. Even better, the main image is less than $10.00. Sorry for the horrible glare on the Dasher image. I sponged with the Champagne mist paint. It doesn't look that pronounced in real life. It is actually a nice subtly glitter sheen on the real red card stock.

Well this past weekend I was able to go away and scrapbook for 3 days!! Yes 3 full days of scrapbooking/card making. I went with my mom, sister and my son's mom mom. I didn't get as much done as I would have liked to, but I was able to complete some pages that needed jounaling and titles.

I was also able to do lots of cards. I did some Christmas cards and birthday cards. I am sitting down now to schedule my cards so I can have a new card post each day this week!

Since you are probably starting to do your Christmas cards, I will post mine first.

I am sure you have seen this type of card with a number of different stamp sets. I just love this technique that I couldn't wait to try it out myself.... I used a dauber to sponge some of the Champagne glitter

This swap was made by Susan Webster. This is a tri-fold card, it measures 3.5 x 10.5. The white cardstock is actually the shimmery white cardstock. Really looks good in person.

This next swap is a neat little bookmark. Kristine Lynch used the scallop punch as a window on the top layer. This is a dual purpose bookmark. You can either stick it in as is or open it up to straddle pages. When it closes it has a magnetic strip to keep it closed.

Over the summer I was involved in a swap with demonstrators in my extended Stampin Up! family. It was my very first ever swap that I did with them. I didn't know what to expect and did one little ATC card. I got some really nice swaps and I felt like some of them might have felt gipped so I made extra of the thank you cards shown in the previous post and sent each of them another card.

This first swap is a card front with the Rich Razzleberry Designer Series Paper. Seeing this paper in hand is what made me want to buy this pack. I really liked the look when I saw it in person.

Clearly Thanks overlays

I have had these sitting around since the last mini catalog. This past weekend some friends and family came over and we stamped all day. I made 8 cards using these Clearly Thanks overlays in about 1 hour. They were so easy. Below are just two of the cards.

Both cards use only the new In Colors. I also used the Butterfly Stampin Up! die that goes in the Big Shot. The only non-SU product I used was the stickles on the butterfly.

So did you think I abandoned this blog?? We were away on vacation for almost 10 days in Hilton Head, SC. Just before we left, my youngest son was diagnosed with pneumonia. A few weeks earlier my oldest son tested positive for Lyme's Disease. Needless to say we have been busy. Lots of doctors appointments.

Now on to Stampin Up! stuff. When I first saw this stamp I thought it was ugly. Why would Stampin Up! make something like this. Well when I first started seeing examples with this it grew on me and I bought it.

Here is a card I made with stamp Trendy Trees and the Stamp-a-ma-jig. The Stamp-a-ma-jig made making these trees so easy. This card was made for my husband's birthday. He thinks cupcakes are too girly so hopefully this is "manly" enough for him.

Ink - Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, and Soft Suede

Accessories - Big Shot, Texturz Plates, Brayer, 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" circle punch, Scallop Circle Punch.

To create the background, I ran a piece of the Kraft Cardstock through my Big Shot with the texturz plate. I then used a brayer and Soft Suede Ink to highlight the raised pieces.

How to use a Stamp-a-ma-jig

Okay so my first club order arrived and it included a stamp set that I have wanted for some time now, Trendy Trees. Well I thought I was always somewhat decent at positioning my stamps when I stamp them. This set has proved me wrong :) I will show you a card I made with the trendy trees stamp set where I didn't use the Stamp-a-ma-jig. Then I will post a few in which I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig.

Happy Birthday Deanie

This is a card I made for my friend and customer Deanie. I haven't seen her in forever but wanted to send her a birthday to let her know we didn't forget about her.

In this card I used one of the new In Colors, Dusty Durango. I paired with with Pumpkin Pie and Barely Banana Ink. The polka dot ribbon is also the new In Color ribbon. I embossed the Manhattan Flower Folder on Shimmery White cardstock. I brayered Barely Banana first since it was the lightest. Then Pumpkin Pie and finally Dusty Durango.

I hope she likes it!!

Brayered Manhattan Flower Embossing Folder

This technique is not mine by far. I have been seeing this done alot but I first saw this technique done from Patty Bennett. It is extremely simple and produces such a beautiful simple card.

What you will need:
- Item 102395 - Brayer - $12.50
- Item 114517 - Manhattan Flower Embossing Folder
- Inks - I used Classic Ink Pads, Barely Banana, Pretty in Pink, and Regal Rose
- Cardstock - I used Shimmery White and Barely Banana

Steps:
1. Cut a 4.25 x 5.5 in Shimmery White

2. Place that cardstock in the Embossing Folder

3. Run the sandwich through your Big Shot

4. Place the embossed flower so RAISED portion is facing down

5. Brayer your image. I always use the lighter colors first then highlight in the darker colors. NOTE: Be sure to clean your brayer after each color.

6. Once you are done with your braying, cut the image out. I left the little white edge from the embossed image.

7. Decorate your card with Ribbon and a saying.

Summer Love Rub ons

Okay this is a complete case of Mary Fish's card. The only thing I changed was the 3 flowers at the bottom. I used the rub ons where as Mary used punches with brads.

Mojo Monday Sketch
